Welcome to the 25th year of the Sydney Sunrise Rotary Club. Our Club is one of 32,000 clubs within Rotary International, a world wide organization of 1.2 million business and professional leaders representing 165 countries.

Our club meets for breakfast every Thursday at 7:30 a.m. for one hour. Thanks to Cheryl and Gord Card at Boston Pizza, we enjoy a full breakfast (members do pay!). One of five clubs on Cape Breton Island, our club is very active both locally and internationally.

Our members (37 currently) live by the Rotary Motto, “service above self”.

Locally we volunteer at Loaves and Fishes, the New Dawn Guest Home, the Salvation
Army Christmas Kettle campaign and provide financial support to many charities such
as our Regional Library, EPIC, Undercurrents, the HAT and the Miners’ Museum, to
name a few.

We raise our funds through our Play Your Number Lottery and the annual Rotary
Ribfest. Both allow us to generously support our community.

This year we are working to establish an international project in Yerevan, Armenia in
partnership with the Sydney and New Waterford clubs and Rotary International. Our
efforts also include providing financial support to our member, Dr. Ian Doyle, who
travels to places like the Honduras on humanitarian dental missions.

We are proud to support our Interact Club at Glace Bay High School, a wonderful group
of young students who are very active in the Glace Bay area. New to us is a recently
established Rotaract Club at Cape Breton University, a unique membership type club
which allows these university students to bring their own distinctive experiences to the
Rotary family.

Along with our hard work, we like to have fun and do so at annual events like our June
lobster party, Charter night, Christmas gathering, hikes, and whatever strikes our fancy!
We are proud to be part of this world-wide organization working with others to eradicate
polio, provide clean drinking water, improvements to women's health, reduce poverty,
promote peace and environmental sustainability.

Interested in joining the Rotary Club of Sydney Sunrise. Come for a test drive any
Thursday morning at Boston Pizza. Want more information, give me a call at
902 270-6306.

We’d love to see you.

Best Regards,
Bill Vokey
